Musician and poet Jackson Mac Law began ta merge his two practices after his exchanges with John Cage in 1953. ln the Drawing-Asymmetries series, lines and commands deconstruct and reconstruct language, using alternative syntaxes and incorporating empty spaces that function as silences: "I feel it is particularly important to use longer silences than those sanctioned by
tradition, for these allow the ambient sound environment ta be integrated into the execution of a given piece".
