Painter, sculptor, architect and urbanist, Marino Di Teana first spoke of "spatial architecture" in 1957. “All my sculptures are architectural models. Sculpture and architecture can’t be separated”, he declared. In the early 1960s, he developed proposals for a flexible grid covering the whole world and a spiral road system for Paris. In 1976, Di Teana showed a group of sculptures/models at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris: Les Villes du futur (Cities of the Future) figure a utopian agglomeration in whose simple geometric forms sculpture and architecture mutually inform each other.
