Working with shadows and blurred and distorted images, these pinhole photographs attempt to transcribe what the eye cannot see.

Barbara Ess played a very active role in developing the no wave scene, playing in the groups Daily Life, The Static, Disband and Y Pants from the late 1970s onward. As early as 1978 she published the first two issues of her Just Another Asshole zine, before being joined by Jane M. Sherry and Glenn Branca as co-editors to work on new publication formats for five other issues (vinyl record, book, large-format tabloid and catalogue), bringing together many no wave contributions.
