The work of Bucher explores the relationship between the body and architecture, examining the memory of place.
This work refers to the house where Heidi Bucher's grandparents lived - "Obermühle" being the "house of the forebears" (Ahnenhaus) - inhabited by ghosts and memories. The artist took casts of the rooms, one by one, a physically demanding process intended as therapeutic. The canvas was laid on the floor and soaked in latex and the resulting "skin" bears the traces of the different floor coverings - linoleum, tile, fragments of newspaper etc. - and seemingly of the passage of the now departed inhabitants.
