The founder in the late Fifties of the Saqqa Khaneh School, a pictorial movement that gave considerable impetus to modern art in Iran, Hossein Zenderoudi militated for an Oriental gestural writing liberated from the traditional rules of calligraphy. He arrived in Paris in the early Sixties, where he joined the movement of post-war gestural painting and Lettrism. His work is centred on the universal: “People are the same everywhere in the world, and everyone can read my work,” he said.
