" With geometric abstraction, language is liberated. lt can be a total creation. By purifying and enhancing, it aims for greater sensitivity." (Claisse)
After trying Geometric abstr ction as an autodidact in the early 1950s, Geneviève Claisse developed a non-figurative language that was still dependent on biomorphic inspiration, as can be seen in this work where the bright yellow form inspired by plant lite stands out soberly against a dark ground. Claisse, who became an assistant to Auguste Herbin in 1959, enjoyed her first solo exhibition at Galerie Denise René in 1961.
