Hugues Reip uses this « mental theatre » to lead us into the strata of another dreamlike and fanciful reality.
The Stage is an installation in homage to Joseph Cornell ( 1903-1972), the American Surrealist artist known for his assemblages of objects found in wooden boxes. Hugues Reip makes a point of materialising and presenting the dreams Cornell described in his notes. ln the manner of a diorama, The Stage is a condensation of the imaginary world of the two artists. Reip is passionate about minerals and plants, assembling images of crystals, fossils or the cosmos that are superimposed, and transport the spectator into a magical and disturbing universe.
