Object 12-1, Type 2
2012
After an initial career as a high-level athlete and philology student, Matija Cop turned to design, specialising in fashion creation. He develops an experimental approach to designing and manufacturing garments, inspired by references borrowed from history, architecture and literature. For the Object 12-1 series, 3D scans of the body were manipulated using modelling software, then transposed to 2D laser-cut models. The process, which consists in manually ?tting together hundreds of unique laser-cut pieces, without any sewing, is a veritable innovation in the fashion world.
