Chihota uses an original silk-screen printing technique to create works combining religious symbolism and everyday life.
Virginia Chihota grew up in Zimbabwe in an intergenerational context and developed an introspective practice informed by her personal experiences, both pivotal and mundane, such as motherhood, faith and mourning. Here, a large female figure blends into abstract motifs, surrounded by strange bodies that seem to be embracing themselves or hiding. By questioning the belonging, at once intimate and collective, of the female body, the artist highlights the ties between individuals and the community.
