ln this raw canvas, Quarles questions identity and the sexualised and racialised body.
Christina Quarles represents distorted bodies, tangled and in motion, challenging the spectator to reorganise each figure. One of them is endowed with several breasts and feminine characteristics. A bicephalous form emerges from its bust: two figures, masculine and feminine, extricate themselves from each other, revealing a conflictual binarity. Other limbs, painted in an elliptical manner, invite us to imagine multiple bodies, non-binary genders and to see the illegibility of certain forms as a plea for the visibility of queer people.
