Key message

This painting reflects both the modern tradition of montage and the ancient tradition of still life.

It is a nod to the pop cult of image and the modernist exhibition of the brushstroke, in other words, to Andy Warhol and Édouard Manet. Armand Jalut chose, mainly from the internet, images of things that embody the theme of appearance (for the clothes) and decoration (for the flowers). He then assembled the chosen images. Here, painting is manifested in the expressiveness of the material and the arbitrariness of the colours, the aim being to salvage a bit of presence in a world where media flows cause much to be lost.
