ln this work, the body symbolises freedom, something that is difficult for the authorities to contain, control and sanction.
Roman Pyatkovka started his engagement with photography in the early 1980' s. He repeatedly emphasized Boris Mikhailov' s influence on his work. Notions of brutality and sexuality bordering on pornography became Pyatkovka's main contribution to the aesthetics of the Kharkiv School of Photography. ln the series Witches' Sabbath, co-produced with Mikhailov, Pyatkovka contrasts the ecstatic freedom of bouncing and laughing naked girls with the monotony of a standard Soviet flat.
