Cloud of Petals
2017
Meyohas organised the digitisation of 100,000 rose petals in an iconic location in the history of computing: the former Bell Laboratories.
Designed in the late 1950s, the Bell Laboratories saw the creation of the first "bit" and some of the first digital art projects. For her work, Sarah Meyohas enlisted the help of sixteen men to help provide data for an image-generation program using artificial intelligence. For each rose, they chose the petal they felt was the prettiest, which was then preserved in a glass press. The project combines manual work and automation in a reflection on the standardisation of beauty and life.
