With this reference to Marcel Duchamp's famous ready-made Fontaine [Fountain], Turk provides a 21st century update on the question of the authenticity and authorship of artworks.
ln the group of Young British Artists, Gavin Turk renews the use of waste, painted bronze and wax in sculpture. This work is the conclusion of the Font Project, begun in the early 1990s, which seeks to present a synthesis of 20th century sculpture in a perfect form. This direct reference to Duchamp's urinal engages a dialogue with 20th century avant-gardes concerningthe myth of the artist.
