The work of the Shilo Group raises the question of the socio-political, but also the artistic, heritage of the previous decades.
Formed in 2010 and comprising a variable number of artists, the Shilo group belongs to the third generation of Kharkiv School photographers. ln a homage to the work Unfinished Dissertation (1984) by Boris Mikhailov, in which the artist wrote and pasted his photographs on the unfinished text of a university dissertation, the Shilo Group in turn pasted its own images over those of Mikhailov. The latter's work, a forerunner of conceptual photography in the USSR, thus became the most seminal influence in the genre in Ukraine.
