Eleven sections
1967
For this sculpture, Peter Downsbrough worked on sequences and intervals, in the wake of the minimalist movement of the 1960s.
Eleven Sections dates from Downsbrough's beginnings in art, when he interrupted his architectural studies and had just built his house-workshop at Etna (New Hampshire). The work is part of a group of geometrical sculptures elaborated from predetermined construction principles. It presents a double alternation of full and empty shapes and parallel and reversed progressions, maintaining a special relationship with architecture, as with all of his work.
