“At dawn, I was shaken by a big BANG and could not get back to sleep again. In Bogota, across the mountains, through a tunnel, near the river. A BANG.”
Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Memoria, Colombia / Thailand / United Kingdom / Mexico / Germany / France / Qatar, 2021, 136 min, original version with French subtitles
With Tilda Swinton, Jeanne Balibar, Juan Pablo Urrego, Elkin Diaz
Ex-aequo Jury Prize at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival
“Memoria is based on perception itself: it goes back to the origin of a sound or sensation until we find its original mystery. It is first and foremost a story of memory: that which limits our daily lives and that we must learn to open to develop a different relationship with the present, and of the spirits that we must learn to listen to. Little by little, the opposition between past and present, the world of the dead and the territory of the living, reality and dream, dissolve.”
Preceded by a virtual meeting with Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Tilda Swinton
Preview screening ahead of its upcoming release in cinemas by New Story.
