The event is over

Todd Haynes takes a look back at his career and creative processes at a Masterclass moderated by Éva Markovits, who programmed the retrospective. The film director will attend with five of his associates.

The session will kick off with the screening of Image Book (2023, 17 min, unreleased), directed by Todd Haynes for the “Où en êtes-vous ?” collection initiated by the Centre Pompidou.

The Masterclass will be followed by a book sale and signing session for Todd Haynes, American Chimeras (published by De l’incidence Éditeur, 2023).

Christine Vachon, his producer and life-long business partner. They met at Brown university and have worked together since Haynes’ first feature, Poison (1991). She has also produced films by Larry Clark, Todd Solondz, John Waters, Paul Schrader and Cindy Sherman.

Laura Rosenthal, his casting director, started working with him on Far from Heaven (2002). They teamed up again for I’m Not There (2007) through to his most recent film, May December (2023). She has also worked on casting for films by Kelly Reichardt (Wendy and Lucy and Night Moves) and more recently the mini-series Fleishman Is in Trouble.

Edward Lachman, cinematographer and a film director in his own right, first worked with Todd Haynes on Far from Heaven (2002) and has since worked on all his films, including Carol (2015) and The Velvet Underground (2021). He has also worked with Robert Altman (A Prairie Home Companion), Sofia Coppola (Virgin Suicides), Wim Wenders (Lightning Over Waterand Tokyo-Ga) and Paul Schrader (Light Sleeper).

Affonso Gonçalves, film editor, won an award for best editing of a mini-series when he first worked with Todd Haynes on Mildred Pierce (2011). He has since worked closely with the film director on all his films. He has also worked with Jim Jarmusch (Only Lovers Left Alive and Paterson), Ira Sachs (Little Men), on the series True Detective and with Jonas Carpignano (A Ciambra and A Chiara).
