1845, Oregon. A caravan of three families employs a trapper, Stephen Meek to guide them. Claiming to know a shortcut, Meek leads the group away from the route. They find themselves lost in the desert, confronted with real dangers and their own fears.

Inspired by a true story, the film was built up from the diaries of pioneers.
"In the beginning the people describe their hopes and aspirations, they really believed they were going to find an earthly paradise in Oregon. But little by little their hopes crumble. The men write: "crossed two rivers, camped among the rocks, no vegetation". Initially full of grand ideas, the women's diaries are reduced to the essential, a list of chores: "Walked ten kilometres, baked some bread, made a fire, set up the tent." Going West was a real ordeal." Kelly Reichardt, Cahiers du cinéma, n0 668, June 2011
Presented by Eva Markovits, critic, followed by an encounter with Kelly Reichardt
