The world is a mysterious place, especially seen through the eyes of an animal. EO, a donkey with melancholic grey eyes, meets different people on his journey - some good, others bad - and experiences joy and sorrow, but never loses his innocence.
Opening session
Jerzy Skolimowski, EO, Poland / Italy, 2021, 85 min, original version with French subtitles
With Sandra Drzymalska, Isabelle Huppert, Lorenzo Zurzolo, Mateusz Kosciukiewicz
Jury Prize - 2022 Cannes Film Festival
“Never renouncing his liking for risk-taking, the daring Jerzy Skolimowski, a major filmmaker with Cahiers in the 1960s, measures himself, in EO, against his favourite film: Au hasard Balthazar. But far from creating a simple remake of Bresson's masterpiece, he uses a donkey’s perspective to paint a stunning fresco on the current state of humanity. Endlessly changing form, this unclassifiable essay plunges us into the world’s chaos through a multitude of new takes on the human viewpoint.” Cahiers du cinéma
Session presented by Marcos Uzal, Chief Editor of Cahiers du cinéma and followed by a virtual encounter with the filmmaker (subject to confirmation).
