The "Berlin in debates" series of round tables is an opportunity to evoke the current situation of the German capital as it reflects on itself and its changing identity. Through the eyes of artists and the prism of projects promoted by Berlin cultural institutions, these group discussions seek to encourage exchanges concerning the current artistic scene in Berlin.
From Syria to Ukraine, the German refugee asylum policy stands out in the European landscape. What are the conditions, the effects, the stakes? To reflect on this, the Centre Pompidou is organising a whole session dedicated to the Archive of Refuge project presented in the HKW (Haus der Kultur der Welt, a Berlin cultural institution dedicated to ideas and societal issues).
Designed by Professor Manuela Bojadzijev and philosopher Caroline Emcke, Archive of Refuge is an impressive collection of more than thirty documentary films in which people recount their history and their relocation to Germany. What forms of memory are necessary in today's societies influenced by migration? The Archive of Refuge is a vast programme, and thus a part of the history of post-war Germany, where particular attention is paid to migration profiles.
For this session, Manuela Bojadzijev, professor at the Institute for European Ethnology and the Berlin Institute for Migration Research (BIM) at Humboldt University Berlin, presents the Archive of Refuge project, in dialogue with personalities in France involved in the question of migration and hosting actions.
