The car, that long-time symbol of speed, progress and power, is put to the test in contemporary art. An object that participated in an industrial epoch that now seems long gone, the car symbolises a daily life now challenged by artists. While it is central to issues and concerns and ones linked to the environment or social conflict, it is difficult to forget its astonishing ability to create legends and inspire fiction.
