Marlene Monteiro Freitas takes us to Paradise, a fantasy Paradise, where harmony flirts with marvel, virtue with oddity and intensity with impurity. Combining radically heterogeneous elements, the choreographer composes a fantasy universe free from the normal constraints, creating situations as absurd as they are comic. This composition for five dancers overturns our generally-accepted ideas. What if Paradise became a hell? Originally from Cape Verde, Marlene Monteiro Freitas interprets the work of many choreographers, including Emmanuelle Huynh, Loïc Touzé and Boris Charmatz. She is a remarkable performer, with a captivating savage grace and animal energy. She belongs to the Lisbon collective, Bomba Suicida, and since 2006 has been creating works whose common theme is openness, impurity and intensity.
