Robert Henke

Robert Henke played a central role in developing the music software Ableton Live, now a standard tool for producing electronic music that has redefined the practice of composition in this field. His passion for the construction and use of machines has led him to explore new territories halfway between performance and installation. For his project entitled Lumière, Henke proposes an immersive, multi-sensorial experience that explores the limits and possibilities of an underestimated medium: powerful lasers execute a rapid succession of forms, while sound elements provide a rhythmic, syncopated counterpoint. Lumière is a work in progress where each performance is a unique snapshot, a performance on the borderline between concert and visual art. The improvisation carried out by this constantly developing software is part of Henke's artistic approach.
