Made in Mexico in 1941, The Forgotten Village documents the poverty-stricken life of an isolated peasant community. Overtly propagandist, the film prefigures certain post-war neo-realist codes. Filmed in natural settings with non-professional actors, The Forgotten Village combines the documentary form with the fictional story of the young Juan Diego, symbol and hope of a better future, but also a victim of ignorance and his family's resistance to change.
