Gianni Emilio Simonetti

In the mid-1960s, at the start of his career, Gianni Emilio Simonetti, a singular figure in the Italian art scene, has often been cited as one of the few members of Situationism and the Italian Fluxus movement. A multimedia artist, brilliant theorist and author of articles on art and society, Simonetti has disseminated and reinterpreted Fluxus movement performances with a musician's rigour, a teacher's commitment and an anarchist's humour, derision and provocation. His work questions language and analyses the role of art by focusing on its self-referencing aspect.
