Young conductors supervised by Péter Eötvös take on the flamboyant virtuosity of John Adams' Chamber Symphony, explore the spatial distribution of Intervalles intérieurs, and venture into the Gobi Desert of L’Esprit des dunes. Here Tristan Murail alludes to the music of Tibetan and Mongolian singing: an analogy sustained by electronics, which produce the perfect meld of timbre and harmony. L’Esprit des dunes is striking for its highly original melodic writing. It evokes a strange phenomenon, where the friction of grains of sand produced by the wind gives the illusion of hearing "the desert sing" – of hearing the unheard.
With the LucerneFestival Academy Orchestra ensemble, CNSMDP students and soloists from the Ensemble Intercontemporain/Computerised music production by IRCAM/Serge Lemouton, Leslie Stuck.
