In his performance Géant, Francisco Tropa reconstructs a bronze human skeleton, piece by piece, on the floor of the gallery. By executing this both simple and complex action, he questions our existential relationship with the body - its composition, weight and structure - offering us a drawing of the human being. Sculpture holds a central place in the work of Francisco Tropa, who started working in the early 1990s. He participated in international exhibitions such as Istanbul Biennial (2011), Manifesta (2000), Melbourne International Biennial (1999) and Sao Paulo Biennial (1998). Francisco Tropa works across sculpture, drawing, performance, photography and film, exploring themes such as the body, death, nature, landscape, memory, origin and time.
