The highly singular work of the sculptor Charles Ray embodies reflections on a new visual figuration. The artist is famous for his sculptures of altered and reworked familiar objects. This evening, he is Michael Fried's guest in a conversation before the audience of the Centre Pompidou. Apart from his appearances in Documenta IX (1992) and the Venice Biennial (1993 and 2003), he has presented several solo exhibitions, including at the Institute of Contemporary Art in London, (1994), the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York (1998) and the Astrup Fearnley Museet, Oslo (2006). In 2014, the Kunstmuseum Basel devoted an exhibition to his sculptures from 1997 to the present day.
