Dead Can Dance is a British-Australian group consisting of contralto singer Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry, composer-singer and multi-instrumentalist, formed in 1981.
Mark Magidson's film Toward the within (1994) allows the public to (re)discover this unclassifiable group, with footage of their Mayfair Theatre concert in Santa Monica (California). Known for their magical incantatory flights of fancy, their writing is inspired by sacred and medieval music, as well as traditional North African, South American or Asian music.
