Dominique Brun

A choreographic event, this event associates the rediscovery of the Sacre du printemps (or The Rite of Spring) in its original version of 1913 with a contemporary reading of Nijinsky's masterpiece. Today, there are hundreds of versions of The Rite. But while Stravinsky's score has remained, the choreography has disappeared. Dominique Brun examines this contradiction and draws astonishing creative energy from it. Sacre #197 is a creation that invites six dancer/choreographers to invent a solo inspired by a series of drawings of the time recording Nijinsky's sacrificial dance. Sacre #2 is a historic reconstruction based on first-hand accounts, annotations, Stravinsky's scores, photographs and sketches. It brings together thirty dancers and a recreation of the costumes and backdrops of the period.
