Trajal Harrell
The Ghost Of Montpellier Meets The Samurai
14 - 17 Oct 2015
The event is over
Trajal Harrell creates a mixture of choreographic repertories. In Twenty Looks or Paris is Burning at the Judson Church, he imagines a meeting between the dancers of "post-modern dance" and icons of "voguing". For his latest show, he reinvents the history of dance by dreaming up a meeting between Dominique Bagouet, a figure in new French dance, Tatsumi Hijikata, the founder of Butoh, and Ellen Stewart, founder of the La Mama Theatre in New York. The choreographer appropriates their work and the myths surrounding their careers in order to explore their passion and devotion will effectively. By mingling choreographic genres and cultures, he explores what lies at the origin of artistic creation.
