The Ensemble Contrechamps of Geneva have long been the favourite performers of Michael Jarrell. In 1989, the composer evoked his first experience of merging with electronics through a geometry term expressing perfect coincidence: "congruence". Having attended Jarrell's composition classes, Spanish composer Marc Garcia Vitoria devised a form of musical mosaic reinforced by electronics, making play with fragmentation and oneness between the ensemble and the soloists.
Congruences by Michael Jarrell/Trencadís by Marc Garcia Vitoria, commission from IRCAM-Centre Pompidou and the Ensemble Contrechamps, Archipel Festival, French creation /Leo by Roberto Gerhard/ IRCAM computerised music score: Serge Lemouton, Nicolas Vérin, Jan Vandenheede.
