Meeting with Joachim Koester

The Danish artist Joachim Koester treats his works as tales halfway between documentary and fiction. In Variations of Incomplete Open Cubes (2011), the artist films in close up the hands of an actor, who attempts to trace in space the Incomplete Open Cubes created by Sol LeWitt in 1974. For the film I Myself Am Only a Receiving Apparatus (2010), Koester enters the space of the reconstruction of Kurt Schwitters' Merzbau, an all-embracing, protean, penetrable, inhabitable environment considered by Schwitters as a part of himself.
