"The Furkart experiment"

Between 1983 and 1999, on the initiative of Neuchâtel publisher and gallery owner Marc Hostettler, and in partnership with James Lee Byars, 63 international artists travelled to the Furkablick Hotel at the Furka Pass, 2,436 metres up in the Swiss Alps, in order to create works. Abramovic & Ulay, Daniel Buren, Niele Toroni, Olivier Mosset, Terry Fox, Jenny Holzer, Richard Long, Claude Rutault, Lawrence Weiner and Rémy Zaugg all took part in this singular experiment, which was highly remarkable but had few echoes outside Switzerland. This presentation within the Nouveau Festival brings this almost forgotten experiment to light again through rare works and documents, together with a collection of films, most of which are being shown for the first time.
