Marlene Monteiro Freitas
De marfim e carne - as estátuas também sofrem
12 - 15 Mar 2015
The event is over
With this new opus, Marlene Monteiro Freitas brings together seven performers, who "dance their hieratic immobility as statues, figures imprisoned and enclosed within the interior of the contours". "The statue bodies" suffer from reappearances: "the agile, living, performing body becomes a symptomatic body; gestures become imbued with reminiscence, highly charged with emotion". Once again, Marlene Monteiro Freitas dares the impossible. A cry of love. A liberated, rebellious gesture. Born in Cap-Vert where she co-founded the troupe "Compass", Marlene Monteiro Freitas went on to study dance in Brussels and Lisbon. Then the dancer and choreographer established her singular presence alongside the Chaignaud/Bengolea/Harrell trio, Boris Charmatz and Tânia Carvalho.
