The event is over
Through his new film presented at the Venice Biennial, Secteur IX B de prophylaxie de la maladie du sommeil (2015), Mathieu K. Abonnenc takes a look at the objects brought back by explorers from colonial missions and our relationship with objects – like Betty, the film's heroine, an anthropologist involved in the famous Dakar-Djibouti mission carried out from 1931 to 1953 under Marcel Griaule, commissioned by the French state. The artist imagines what the issues of such an exploratory project would be today – what if Betty chose an intimate approach inspired by Michel Leiris' diary, L’Afrique fantôme? This session provides an occasion to compare this film with other films selected by the artist.
"Prospectif cinéma" explores the films of emerging or recently established contemporary French and international artists.
