Presque rien

For his first feature film, Sébastien Lifshitz portrayed the relationship between Mathieu (Jérémie Elkaïm) and Cédric (Stéphane Rideau), who meet one summer in full view of the women present in the house. ‘His argument - the sentimental education of a young man discovering his homosexuality - is an omnipresent motif for Lifshitz, who abolishes any hint of particularity. Neither scandalous nor vengeful and even less a matter of derision, homosexuality appears, at last, to have been naturalised in French film-making,’ wrote Jacques Mandelbaum in Le Monde, when the film was released in June 2000.
