The California Institute of the Arts (or CalArts, as it is commonly known) was founded by Walt and Roy Disney in 1961. It was born from the merging of two schools - the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music (est. 1883) and the Chouinard Art Institute (est. 1921). The programme spans 30 years of productions and illustrates the sheer breadth of genres and practices that have sprung up there - from non-fiction to storytelling, and from abstract films to found footage.
