Le Périmètre de Denver (The Denver Perimeter) is a concept that borrows from both quantum physics and philosophy: it refers to a state of confusion that is characterised by a distortion of our relationship with identity and reality. Combining a filmed essay, performance, transformism, portrait gallery and interlocking narratives, artist Vimala Pons is equally inspired here by Stefan Zweig, hoaxes and detective series.
A mysterious murder is committed in a thalassotherapy hotel in Brighton in May 2008: the victim was found in her room. Through a series of interviews we encounter seven witnesses from very different backgrounds who do not know each other and who were all present in the hotel on the day of the murder. But we quickly realise that the crossed testimonies do not concur with each other and that the versions of the same story, of the same evening, build up and do not fit together. So who is telling the truth? Which point of view is the right one? Who's who? In the course of their statements, each person presents themselves and testifies.
The piece develops narrative structures that are both amusing and incomplete, melancholic and explosive. Composed off-centre monumental objects loom around Vimala Pons: so many clues in a story that is supposed to connect seven characters in search of incarnation, who take possession of the performer by turns, like a proliferation of obscure time corridors that suddenly reveal their crazy architecture.
