The Souvenir – Part II
19 Mar 2023
The event is over
Emerging from a gruelling relationship with a seductive manipulating man who died of an overdose, Julie attempts to disentangle her confused feelings with her graduation film, while simultaneously seeking to shed light on the fictitious existence this man had invented for himself. As a shimmering chronicle of first love and a coming-of-age narrative, the second part of this diptych paints a portrait of an artist who sublimates the fragments of everyday life, where reminiscence and fantasy are intermingled to the point of fusion.
"There is total vertigo: forty years later, a film rewrites a life that could have been very different. Catharsis is produced both in the past, through fiction, and today, through the very existence of this diptych." Louis Guichard, Télérama, February 2022
