Hit the road (working title)
Panah Panahi
20 Sep 2021
The event is over
A road movie about an extravagant family travelling to a secret destination. In the back, the father has a “broken” leg, but is it really broken? The mother tries to laugh when she is actually holding back tears. The child keeps breaking into song and dance. They are all worried about the sick dog and get on each other's nerves. Only the mysterious older brother remains silent.
Panah Panahi, Hit the Road (Jadde Khaki) (working title), Iran, 2021, 93min
With Hassan Madjooni, Pantea Panahiha, Rayan Sarlak, Amin Simiar
2021 Cannes Film Festival, La Quinzaine des réalisateurs
“While certain elements of Hit the Road instantly remind us of what we have already seen of Iranian cinema through the films of Abbas Kiarostami or Jafar Panahi (the director's father) – the presence of children, roads, car journeys – Hit the Road stands apart for its humour, constant directorial gems and unique relationship with the landscape. But underneath its fanciful surface, sometimes bordering on the burlesque, there is real political insolence.”
Presented by the editorial team of Cahiers du cinéma and followed by a virtual meeting with Panah Panahi
