Yves Saint Laurent. The farewell fashion show
10 Feb 2022
The event is over
Twenty years ago, on 22 January 2002, Yves Saint Laurent bade farewell to fashion with a dazzling fashion show that reviewed his whole career. The museum was privatised for the occasion, offering the creator a final stage on which to recount forty years of couture.
This choice underscored his attachment to modern and contemporary art which, beginning with his "homage to Piet Mondrian" collection in 1965, proved to be a constant inspiration for him. For the occasion, more than two thousand guests gathered in the Forum of the Centre Pompidou witnessed the designer's favourite models showcasing his most iconic creations in a celebration of a forty-year career.
The video recording of this final fashion show is projected in the framework of the "Yves Saint Laurent in the Centre Pompidou" presentation on levels 4 and 5 of the museum. Designed for the sixtieth anniversary of Yves Saint Laurent's first fashion show, the "Yves Saint Laurent in Museums" project sets out to create a dialogue between the permanent collections of five Parisian museums and the designer's creations in order to reflect the links he wove throughout his life with the arts.
