Chantal Akerman: Legacy, Memory and Influence
21 Oct 2023
The event is over
With Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975) recently ranked by Sight and Sound magazine as the greatest film in the history of cinema, the panel discusses the hugely important figure of filmmaker Chantal Akerman. Akerman, who professed to being influenced by Michael Snow, Andy Warhol, Jean-Luc Godard, and Jonas Mekas, created a diverse body of work which sits between cinema and contemporary art, blending diaries, travelogues, literary adaptations, manifestos, and feminist activism. This multifaceted work has had a profound influence on a new generation of artists and its importance is constantly being reassessed.
The Paris+ par Art Basel Conversations program is curated by Pierre-Alexandre Mateos and Charles Teyssou in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou.
