The New Kid
12 Jan 2022
The event is over
Designed as a television show, The New Kid is first and foremost an investigation of the burgeoning mythology around the life of Billy The Kid, a famous outlaw who lived in the American West in the 19th century.
In this local and largely improvised show, the residents of the city of Las Vegas are invited to share their knowledge of the character and to describe the projection of Billy The Kid that they would envisage today. Could he still exist in the 21st century?
Arnaud Dezoteux, The New Kid, France, USA, 2021, HD, 71 min 45, original version with subtitles
Arnaud Dezoteux was born in Bayonne in 1987. He lives and works in Paris.
A graduate of the Paris School of Fine Arts in 2011, his films and installations focus on subjects that include reality TV, seduction coaching and bodybuilding, often using an incrustation studio with a green backdrop as the location for an atypical confrontation with the actors, causing in-the-wings scenes, improvisation and spectacular effects to coincide. Following a solo exhibition in the Edouard Manet gallery in Gennevilliers (2016), he presented his film Miroir de Haute-Valnia (Mirror of Upper-Valnia) in the Centre Pompidou (2017) and a Billy the Kid project in the Pernod-Ricard Foundation (2021). His films have been shown in Les Bains Douches art centre in Alençon, in the Confort Moderne in Poitiers, in the Lafayette Foundation, the 221A gallery in Vancouver, the Loop Art Fair in Barcelona, and the Forde gallery in Geneva. In collaboration with Glassbox, he is currently preparing a film project on life-size gaming communities of role-players.
