Autour des Pépites du cinéma

The event is over
In 2007, Aïcha Belaïdi started to create Les Pépites du Cinéma, a travelling festival of urban films. For nine years, this essential meeting place presented films by talented filmmakers from different cultures and origins whose common point was the street as a place of creation or source of inspiration. This session is a form of homage to this unique story, the starting point of many filmmakers' careers, with those who made it, working closely with Aïcha Belaïdi. With short films by Rachid Djaïdani, Nadja Harek and Jean-Pascal Zadi.
"I would not be here if Aïcha Belaïdi had not been there. Of course, there's a political question in the Pépites approach: her determination to provide a platform for those who weren't yet being listened to, but what I remember most about Aïcha was the way she took care of both the films and the people who make them. She taught us that. By founding Les Pépites du Cinéma, she offered us a refuge, a place, a cinema theatre where we could babble on the screen for the first time. By celebrating her memory, we pay back what she gave us. She made us stand up and today she allows us to write the next chapter. This is also a way of reflecting collectively on how to avoid as much as possible the phenomenon of perpetual erasure." Alice Diop
