The event is over
A family's lonely island existence is disrupted by a visit from an old friend. As the father's authority is challenged, a breath of freedom blows, revealing desire and violence.
Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović, Murina, Brazil / Croatia, 2021, 92min
With Cliff Curtis, Danica Čurčić, Gracija Filipović, Leon Lučev
2021 Cannes Film Festival, La Quinzaine des réalisateurs / Caméra d’or at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival
“The sunny atmosphere of Murina is a red herring: the truth lurks below the surface. In her first film, the director undermines every symbol: the island paradise is a prison, the beauty of the bodies is decadence, the dreams of freedom are a nightmare. By herself, the young heroine overturns the logic of the "coming of age" narrative: it is less what she can build that counts, but rather what she wants to destroy.”
Presented by Amélie Galli from the Centre Pompidou and followed by a virtual meeting with Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic
