Vale Poher / MEMORIALS
20 Mar 2024
The event is over
Composer, producer and performer Vale Poher has been active on the French independent music scene for nearly 15 years. MEMORIALS reunites two great artists: Verity Susman (Electrelane, Vera November) and Matthew Simms (Wire, Better Corners, It Hugs Back, UUUU)
Vale Poher
Vale Poher has released several solo and collaborative albums, the latter with Mensch in a rock new-wave duo (Tsunami Addiction). She regularly works with artists from other disciplines such as theatre, the visual arts (for example with Saâdane Afif) and cinema (Vergine Keaton). In 2021, she wrote the soundtrack for the series Fluide, directed by Sarah Santamaria-Martens (Arte). She is returning to the stage at the Centre Pompidou to present her latest album, Le succès, due for release in November 2023. Dry, taut and uncompromising with incisive lyrics in French, Le succès draws inspiration from the likes of Alan Vega, Alain Bashung and Gérard Manset. Between cold wave, pop and 80’s synthetic dance, it ultimately takes us by the hand and comforts us: “tell me, what is success? We are success”.
MEMORIALS
The two multi-instrumentalists use, among other things, guitars, keyboards, a saxophone, tape and drums to create a captivating and unique world, between melodic art-rock and psychedelic pop, hypnotic loops and experimental music.
Featuring two original film soundtracks, their first double album Music For Films: Tramps! & Women Against The Bomb was released on 12 May via the label State51 Conspiracy.
To mark the occasion, MEMORIALS is presenting a new piece, composed specially for the Centre Pompidou and inspired by a work in the Centre Pompidou-Musée National d'Art Moderne’s collection.
Une cassette en édition limitée sera distribuée à chaque personne assistant au concert.
