Circuit des yeux

"Circuit des Yeux" is the stage name of Haley Fohr, an American artist on the experimental folk music scene. During lockdown, her generally collaborative song writing practice became solitary. Haley wrote for piano and organ, instruments that make a change from her usual guitar, creating a sound "like a solid foundation on which you can count".
Her words constantly returned to images of black holes and gravity, all-consuming phenomena that tear apart our shared experience of physical reality. "I became obsessed with black holes, the ultimate gravitational attraction", says Haley Fohr.
Out of this, songs began to take shape. They followed the disintegration of the world, as in Vanishing, in which Fohr sings "farewell" to all that she can see and touch around her.
Working at home on her computer, Fohr wrote, arranged and produced every note of her new album, entitled -io. She wrote for an orchestra of twenty-three musicians, bringing together strings, horns and drums around her voice and daring melodies. Because of health restrictions, Fohr could record with only six other musicians at a time in a studio. Layer by layer, she and her co-musicians (thirteen highly reputed musicians from the jazz, classical and experimental scenes) built up the record, intertwining her pain with desire. The result is both vast and crushing, and we feel as if we are being drawn into a giant gaseous fog.
