Arture 178. Capital XXV. "Accumulation du Capital"
1974 - 1975
Arslan's thoughts on alienation, as well as his interest in Marxism, would determine his first major series, Le Capital (1969-1975).
ln thirty works, the artist refers to major subjects from the eponymous work by Marx. The last one (Arture 178) develops the very essence of capitalism, as a process of accumulation, in an unprecedented circular format. It follows a concentric progression in three parts: the exploitation of the masses by racial and imperialist prerogatives, the submission of the proletariat under the system's coercive laws, and lastly the profits enriching a restricted class. In the centre, capitalism personified has a dollar bill in the place of a face.
